AMERICAN DUTCH GERMAN SWORD SWORD HANGER  Revolutionary War period with scabbard This is a very nice Germanic hanger and scabbard of the type used in the revolutionary war. see Nuemann 47.s from similar. It has a nice half lion pommel, brass wire wrap and a leather over wood scabbard with brass mounts. The blade has an interesting and lethal profile, having a short wide fuller at the back that becomes a double edge that runs for 2/3rd of the blade length. This is an unusual configuration that may make it possible for a collector to identify very specifically. It is in very good condition having had period restoration and repair. A rare and attractive sword.

Thanks for the inquiry, the blade hilt and grip are tight. I have added an image of the sword it scabbard (nice fit). The hilt may have been rewrapped but if so, a long time ago. There is even wear through the leather to wood in places. The brass wire is often seen on this type of hanger and here is likely original  or very old. The wire is flattened in profile in places indicating rubbing for a long time against a belt or uniform piece. The hilt has probably been tightened as it looks like it has been repeened in the distant past and the top of the knucklebow is seated a little deeper than I woudl expect.  The top scabbard throat may not be  original, the clip on it seems a little bit lighter than I would expect and the brass seems thinner that the drag and less well finished. the langet on that side may have been shortened to accommodate this. have a look at the austrian 1765 hangers and the austrian 1776 hanger in the national maritime museum online collection for very closely related swords. I think I have addressed everything here. Basically look like it has a long hard service life cleaned and repaired along the way. hope this helps.
