NICE U.S. EAGLE HEAD NAVAL OFFICER SWORD 19TH CENTURY:

Although is in need of restoration, this is an example of a rare and seldom encountered U.S. Eagle Head Naval Officer\'s Sword which dates from the early part of the 19th Century. It is mounted with an impressive quillback blade that measures 28 inches in length which remains very nice with just some minor surface blemishes and beautiful etching still present on either side. The stirrup guard is crowned with a wonderfully detailed Eagle Head pommel that continues to wear traces of the original bright gold wash and has now developed a lovely aged patina. The front folding guard is nicely enhanced with an acorn pattern however the smaller back folding guard has broken away and been lost over time. The pretty carved grip has also survived in good condition and even though it has a very small chip near the pommel does remain tight and sturdy. Overall measuring 33 3/8 inches in length. There is no scabbard. (please note other items shown as props are not included in this sale)
