NICE U.S. MOUNTED ARTILLERY OFFICER SWORD BY A.W. SPIES:

This is a good example of an U.S. Mounted Artillery Officer Sword that dates from the Era of The War of 1812 and was manufactured by A.W. Spies. It is mounted with quillback, curved blade that measures 30 7/8 inches in length. The blade reflects age with some old pitting scars and staining, nevertheless much of the original blue and gold remains as well as all of the beautiful engravings. The lovely brass stirrup guard features a beaded design and frames a wonderfully carved checkered natural hilt that although has a chip at the pommel, does remain very sturdy and has now richly mellowed with age. The original double ring, brass scabbard wears equally beautiful engravings and has survived in very nice serviceable condition. Overall measuring 36 inches in length.
