We are listing this nice early 1800s Mortlake Georgian jug which has been made into a mustard pot with the addition of an early 1800s Austrian coin silver lid. There is no mark on the jug but the lid has a partially rubbed mark on the inside which indicates it is alt-wien (Old Vienna) Austrian coin silver from the early 1800s - unfortunately I cannot decipher the exact year or the specific grade of coin silver. Even though the jug is not marked, it was likely made by one of the Mortlake potteries in the early 1800s. Ivor Noel Hume\'s authoritative article on brown jug sprigs in the 2004 Ceramics in America indicates the fern like tree sprig is early 1800s Mortlake (page 228), as is the windmill (page 234). With the lid/thumb plate the jug is over 3.5 inches tall, over 3.5 inches at its widest point, and it displays very well. It is in very good condition, but there is a short stress line and a small flake on the inside edge of the rim (which can\'t be seen when the lid is closed), and the lid has some tarnish spots which did not come off with a polishing cloth. Please view the closeup pictures and judge for yourself (the lid has not been professionally polished).
