Since the 18th century, fine porcelain has been elaborately made by hand in Nymphenburg. In 1747 the Porcelain Manufactory Nymphenburg was established, achieving international fame only ten years later. From then on (until today), successful cooperation with renowned artists and designers followed. The sixteen figures of the Commedia dell\'Arte, created by Franz Anton Bustelli, were one of the most artful products of the 18th Century. Products by the porcelain manufactory are awarded prizes and are exhibited in international collections to this day.
Everything is made by hand. The delicacy and quality of Nymphenburg porcelain is guaranteed by their purely manual manufacturing methods. The porcelain-mass stems from their own production, the colors are produced and mixed on site, the porcelain painter works without stencils and the 24 carat gold decorations are hand-polished. With their production since the 18th Century, they have reached perfection.

The production of the correct porcelain mass is highly complicated and three years pass from its initiation to its use. The moulds for the casting require years of experience and technical know-how. Each figure needs several single moulds, which are assembled after casting and drying. The moulds can only be used up to 15 times until the next model mould is cast and can be re-worked by hand. With more than 30,000 moulds, the Porcelain Manufactory Nymphenburg is a true museum. Each figure is cast by hand, dried, assembled with the other parts and then modelled by hand with decorations. The colours are produced from thousands of pigments and color oxides - more than 15,000 color recipes exist today. The figures are painted by hand, without stencils. During the firing, the glaze melts with the color and the final colors appear.
NYMPHENBURG is the porcelain manufactory of the Bavarian crown. The noble art of porcelain-making has been cultivated here since its founding in 1747. Even now, manu factum means in Nymphenburg what it always did – completely handmade, using techniques passed on and preserved from generation to generation. This is the only way to assure the unrivaled fineness, subtlety and brilliance of porcelain that Nymphenburg’s global reputation is based on. The manufactory’s master workshops produce avantgarde and tailor-made designs from four centuries, created right up to the present day by the most distinguished artists, architects and designers.
