Description:

WE PURCHASED AN EXTREMELY RARE SET OF FOUR MATCHED STACKING SHAKER TYPE PANTRY BOXES IN ORIGINAL BITTERSWEET RED PAINTED SURFACE WITH TRACES OF THE ORIGINAL OLD VARNISH AND IN VERY NICE CONDITION. THEY ARE ALL IN MAPLE AND PINE AND THEY STILL RETAIN THEIR ORIGINAL COPPER NAILS AND WOODEN PEGS.
THEY ARE IDENTICAL IN FORM, WOODS AND PAINT HISTORY.
THEY ARE PROBABLY (but not guaranteed) FROM THE ENFIELD, CT SHAKER COMMUNITY, CIRCA 1840-1860.

IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND A REAL SET OF FOUR STACKING SHAKER PANTRY BOXES, ESPECIALLY IN THIS INCREDIBLE ORIGINAL BITTERSWEET RED PAINT.
ALL FOUR BOXES SHOW EVIDENCE OF OLD OR ORIGINAL PAPER LABELS (now removed), see photos.

ALTHOUGH THEY ARE A MATCHED SET WE ARE GOING TO BE SELLING THEM INDIVIDUALLY THIS WEEK.

THIS sale IS FOR ONLY BOX #4 WHICH IS THE LARGE BOTTOM BOX AS SHOWN IN THE GROUP PHOTO.

BOX #4- This is the large bottom box as shown in the set.

IT HAS ITS GRUNGY OLD ORIGINAL BITTERSWEET RED PAINTED SURFACE. THE SURFACE IS GRUNGY AND WORN. IT STILL RETAINS TRACES OF ITS ORIGINAL DARKENED VARNISH AS WELL.

It is 8 3/4\" across and 4 1/4\" tall.

The condition is as follows: near perfect condition with only minor paint losses and abrasions and a small 1/4\" by 3\" crack in the back bottom, (see photos).

THESE BOXES ARE MUCH, MUCH BETTER IN PERSON. THE HARSHNESS OF THE FLASH TAKES AWAY FROM THE INCREDIBLE PATINA AND PAINT THESE BOXES HAVE.
