ORIGINAL 1798 DEED ME SIGNED BY JACOB HAZEN REVOLUTIONARY WAR PATRIOT + PERLEY

Offered is an entirely handwritten deed signed by Revolutionary War Soldier Jacob HAZEN (1762 Boxford MA-1843 Andover MA or Bridgton Maine. Son of Jacob HAZEN (1739-1795) and Abigail PERLEY SPOFFORD, widow of Wm SPOFFORD. Both father and son are in the DAR Patriot Index page 318. Sr listed as Sgt and Jr listed as Pvt with Pension.

Jacob (1762-1843) married Hannah WOOD. They were in Bridgton ME by 1794. He kept a Tavern at North Bridgton before 1800.

Their children included: Nathan married Mary PINGREE; Jacob died yng;. Adeline m Capt Williams POTTER; Betsey married Nathaniel POTTER; Jacob married Caroline SPEAR.

The deed itself , although dated 1798 says Jacob HAZEN Bridgton in the County of Cumberland, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Yeoman to Stephen SPOFFORD of Boxford, Essex Co, MA...land bounded by Thomas, John and Nathaniel PERLEY, Nathan PHILLIPS, Benjamin SPOFFORD and Phineas PERLEY.

The deed is signed by Jacob HAZEN AND his MOTHER (so stated as giving up her dower).

Abigail PERLEY SPOFFORD HAZEN, who signs, was born in 1732!

Witness signatures of Thomas PERLEY and Josiah HAZEN. Verso has signature of Thomas PERLEY as Justice of the Peace.
