Available for purchase, a genuine original vintage 1964 Ed \"Big Daddy\" Roth \'Get Punched\" water slide decal, in ridiculously near-flawless mint condition.
A little background that enables me to make such a bold claim. I have been a collector of Roth and Rat Fink gear for nearly 50 years. I have had occasion to buy and sell dozens of vintage water slide decals like this one, in varying stages of quality. Almost every one always shows some signs of age, usually with cracking, checking or yellowing/discoloration to the actual decal material and paper surface. This particular one is surely one of the best-preserved specimens I have ever encountered. It literally looks as if it was put away 52 years ago in a dark, dry place, until just recently. It\'s in that good a shape! I am not usually prone to hyperbole when describing a vintage item, but if you are looking for a bonafide mint example of Roth memorabilia from his very early days, then you won\'t find anything better than this. You can hope that another copy might come along that is in this prime a condition, but the odds are against you- this I can tell you with certainty, based upon my considerable experience. Please see the many photos I\'ve attached for all the details. As an added bonus, this vintage bad boy is larger than the average Roth decal, measuring in at an impressive 4 1/4 by 5 1/4 inches!
Just a little background on the unique design of this decal. In the kustom-krazy late 1950\'s- early 1960\'s, one of the most popular mods to have done on your ride was to have louvers installed somewhere/everywhere on the rear deck lid, top and sides of the hood, etc. This was done through the use of a large, heavy press, that would literally \"punch\" a louver pattern clean through the sheet metal. Rodders would use the term \"getting punched\" to describe this popular customizing process.
Because Roth was an innovator in custom design, it\'s likely that he came up with this decal design to show his distaste for the score of wannabe rodders who lined up in scores to have this same process done to their rides, making them all look alike.
