ORIGINAL CIVIL WAR SNAKE BUCKLE BELT, Circa 1861-65. GeneralDescription: This an authentic Civil War Snake Buckle Belt from the Civil War. Although usually associated with Southern military accouterments, the snake buckle belt was worn by soldiers on both sides of the war. I\'ve been clearing out a large collection.There will be three sales (now #2) for this belt -- its original, and is selling well below the current value...I prefer to keep it in my collection if it does not sell at this price point.LeatherBelt: The black leather, with some expected minor wear and scuffing, is supple and in excellent condition. There are no tears or other damage to the belt. No additional holes have been added. The protective leather chape is also present. Buckle: The brass snake buckle is also in excellent condition with only age-related wear. The snake buckle is of the \"Tobacco leaf\" variety associated with British manufacturer A. Ross & Company (see lower photo of white belt and additional close up from The English Connection, Russ A. Prichard, Jr. & C.A. Huey, 2014). Markings: No markings are apparent. Dimensions: As configured, the leather is set at 30\" (~32.5\" waist with the buckle) with an additional 9.5\" to expand the waist size. The leather width is 1.75\". The buckle loops are 2.25\" x .65\". This is not a late Victorian belt that has the flat-ish snake and thin brass loops that a lot of sellers try to push, but the more robust, thicker snake buckle and split ring loops of the Civil War period on the original belt. This a great opportunity to own, at a reasonable price, a true Civil War collector\'s piece...it will add to any serious collection.
