THIS IS AN ORIGINAL US CAVALRY 1908 REGULATION SADDLE BLANKET FOR THE McCLELLAN SADDLE.IT IS OF THE TYPE USED BY THE US CAVALRYDURING THE MEXICAN EXPEDITION AND WORLD WAR I

THIS MODEL WAS USED UNTIL THE DISMOUNT OF THE US CAVALRY. THE EMBROIDERED \"US\" AND ORDNANCE \"FLAMING BOMB\" WAS DISCONTINUED OVER THE YEARS TO CUT DOWN ON PRODUCTION COST. THIS IS A SCARCE EARLY ONE AND ALTHOUGH SHOWING FIELD WEAR,IT IS IN GOOD CONDITION.

THE REGULATION CALLS FOR THIS SADDLE TO BE FOLDED IN 6 UNDER THE SADDLE.

THE TWO DARKER STRIPES ARE PRESENT ON EACH END. ONE IS 2 INCHES WIDE AND THE OTHER1. THE MAKER TAG IS LONG GONE. THERE ARE A FEW SMALL HOLES HERE AND THERE FROM USE AND WEAR BUT NO MAJOR TEAR.THE EDGING IS FRAYED. THIS BLANKET IS SOILED FROM FIELD USE. THE MOST NOTICEABLE SPOT IS A RUST COLOR SPOT ABOVE THE EMBROIDERED \"US\".

THE BLANKET MEASURES ABOUT80 INCHES BY 70 INCHES.WHEN ISSUED, IT WOULD HAVE MEASURED 84 x72, REPEATED WASHING SIMPLY SHRUNK THE WOOL.

THE EMBROIDERED \"US\" AND FLAMING BOMB ARE INVERY GOODCONDITION. THE COLORS ARE EXCELLENT. NOTE THAT MOST OF MY PICTURES SHOW A GRAY TINT TO THE BLANKET WHICH IT DOES NOT HAVE, IT IS MERELY A REFLECTION OF MY STUDIO LIGHT.
