AN ORIGINAL CIVIL WAR US FEDERAL CAVALRY GIRTH OR CINCH IN VERY GOOD CONDITION COMPLETE AND UNMOLESTED FOR ABOUT 150 YEARS.

IT IS THE REGULATION 1859 McCLELLAN SADDLE GIRTH ISSUED TO ALL TROOPERS DURING THE CIVIL WAR. ITCONTINUED TO BEIN SERVICE DURING THE EARLY INDIAN WARS UNTIL 1872 WHEN A NEW DESIGN WAS ADOPTED.

THERE IS ALIGHT OVAL INSPECTOR STAMP IN THE LEATHER UNDER THE LARGE IRON \"D\" RING. THIS IS A STANDARD US ARSENAL INSPECTOR STAMP. IT IS HARDLY LEGIBLE BUT THE \"US\" CAN BE MADE OUT.

THE LEATHER IS DRYWITHSOME SURFACE CRAZING AND FINISH LOSSTO BE EXPECTED ON LEATHER THIS OLD. IT DOES NOT HAVE ANY CUT AND IS NOT FRAGILE TO HANDLE BUT IS VERY STIFF. THE LEATHER COLOR IS BLACK AS IT SHOULD BE. THE STITCHING IS COMPLETE AND APPEAR SOUND BUT I CERTAINLY WOULD ADVISE NOT TO TUG ON THE LEATHER PARTS TO TEST IT.

NOTE ALSO THAT THE BILLET KEEPERS ARE FLAT AND STIFF AND I WOULD RECOMMEND NOT TO ATTEMPT TO PUSH THROUGH LEATHER STRAPS.

THE IRON HARDWAREIS WELL RUSTED BUT CAN BE MOVED.
