New Page 1For the StereoviewPhotographer & CollectorOWL Stereoscope 3d Viewer by Brian May -Improved Version 2

TheOWL stereoscope is a brilliant little device, highly praised by stereophotographers worldwide.

  • It comes flat (or converts back to flat) for easy mailing.

  • Within seconds it can be assembled to look like a standard stereoscope.

  • It has two good lenses and an opening for the nose. It is very comfortable (lightweight) to hold and easy to use.

  • You can use it view standard stereoviews (3x7 inches), modern stereoviews (4x6 inches) or anything in between.

  • You can use it to view stereo pictures in magazines and books. Some people have even used it to view computer images, even though the magnification is a bit too high for that.

  • It can be easily focused by changing the distance of the lenses to the image (you can place your fingers on the side and gently slide the focusing as you look at the image).

  • I liked this so much that I got a few extra units for resale. You will be very pleased with this, I guarantee it!

This stereoscope was designed and produced by Brian May, forhis book \"A Village Lost and Found\". This version here is thelatest version, found is his Diaberies book. It was met with such anenthusiasm that it was decided to sell it separately.

Owl Version 2 information: (from Brian\'ssite)

The new version of the OWL features a wider aperture in theback plate - as suggested by Stereo World editor John Dennis. This makes nodifference to the OWL\'s performance in viewing stereo cards, but it enables theviewer to cover the whole area of larger format cards when they are illustratedlife-size in book and magazines. Usually these are cards made much later thanthe \"Scenes in Our Village\" and \"Diableries\" cards … forinstance Keystone Views, and Underwood and Underwood, and many 21st centurystereo pairs now being offered. So the OWL now covers more formats than ever.

PS. The version 2 OWL is black while the original version is gray in color. They both say \"1\" in the back (see picture)

But perhaps the most significant advantage of the new Version2 OWL is that it is perfect for viewing side-by-side stereos on the iPAD. In thecoming months, this is going to become more and more significant. The newestversion of the iPad has a much better resolution than the previous models. In myopinion it\'s still not quite fine enough resolution for our purposes. It wouldbe a lot better if we stereoscopists could use the whole area of the screen forour stereo pairs, but that\'s very hard. The geometry of the Brewster system -which is really what we are all using, dictates strict limits for the size ofour images. Well, we shall see - but in the meantime our OWLs will be a greattool for enjoying electronic stereos on our iPads.

\"This is the finest Stereoscope to appear in the last 120years.
In future there will be no point in producing
a stereoscopically illustrated book without an OWL !

\"David G Burder, FRPS - Past president of TheStereoscopic Society and The International Stereoscopic Union.
