Waka tauaTruly unique piece of native art, war Spirit canoe sculpture made of one piece of wood, really impressive .Rare? I cannot find another one anywhere- and I have looked. What impresses me is the design, with four men rowing with their hands, two have their hands upwards, almost in praying motion, the other two hands downwards, probably in rowing motion. On front and back of the boat each hanging one more person, one higher up in the front, the other in the back lower in the water.There is very little known about this piece. Certainly not new, but unknown age.
Weight 4,3 kilo without stand and length 96 cm, so impressive in size too.

Traditionally the war canoe was highlytapu(sacred). No cooked food was allowed in the craft and the waka had to be entered over the gunwales, not the bow or stern which were highly decorated with powerful symbols.
