Offering a unique original mixed media (acrylic, ink,etc.) painting depicting a composition with woman nude as central subject, signed TomWesselmann,inscribed Wesselmann, in the lower margin of the artwork and on verso ofthe artwork.

Thiswork is one in a series of still-lifes and composition of women inspired by motives and images cut outfrom magazines and consumer culture, then transformed onto the surface ofpaintings, composed with an eye towards the combination of objects, colors andtextures. Wesselmanns still lifes are ussualy unrealistic images, created as arepresentation of the domesticity & consumerism in the 60‘s.Still Life recastsold traditions of the still life, and landscape painting in the hip language ofmodern American life.

The artwork comes with a registration certificate at NationalFine Arts Title Registry, with a transfer of registry certificate to the newowner, transfer of ownership and a COA which came with the artwork whenacquired. The artwork is offered and described in the documentation as inmanner of the artist. The condition of the artwork is very good, as pictured,common aging of the paper can be noticed. The artwork is also stamped onreverse from the previous collection, and has a reference number marked onverso.

Tom Wesselman wasborn in Cincinnati in 1931, and studied art first in Cincinnati, then in NewYork at the Cooper Union. His early paintings were evocative of AbstractExpressionism, influenced by Willem de Kooning.
One of the first Pop artists, along with Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein andClaes Oldenburg, Wesselman started experiments in 1959 with small, abstractcollages. Then, in 1960, he adopted advertising images to make bold amusingstill lifes and interiors, collages and assemblages using commonplace householditems, and often, a highly stylized female nude.
Wesselman began The Great American Nude Series in 1961, a series of large andsmall works distinguished by number only. Some of the works include real ratherthan depicted objects, household objects such as a bathtub, radiator, andtoaster. He has continued to feature the female nude in every major series ofpaintings and sculpture throughout his career.
