Offering a unique original mixed media (tempera,gouache, etc.) painting, signed Mark Rothko, inscribed Mark Rothko in the lower right and on verso of the artwork. Rothkobelieved that the rectangles merely offered a new way of representing thepresences or spirits that he tried to capture in earlier works. \"It wasnot that the figure had been removed,\" he once said, \"..but thesymbols for the figures... These new shapes say.. what the figures said.\"In this way, Rothko imagined a kind of direct communion between himself and theviewer, one which might touch the viewer with a higher spirituality.Rothko\'swork is characterized by rigorous attention to formal elements such as color,shape, balance, depth, composition, and scale; yet, he refused to consider hispaintings solely in these terms.

The artwork comes with a registration certificate atNational Fine Arts Title Registry, with a transfer of registry certificate tothe new owner, transfer of ownership and a COA which came with the artwork whenacquired. The artwork is offered and described in the documentation as inmanner of the artist. The condition of the artwork is very good, as pictured,common aging of the paper can be noticed. The artwork is also stamped onreverse from the previous collection, and has a reference number marked onverso.
