7-1/8\" tall blue and white Arthur Wood pitcher is not at all pink as some of the pictures suggest. The pitcher was among the few made to commemorate the 1937 Coronation of King Edward VIII of Great Britain who became King when his father died on Jan. 20, 1936. His coronation was to have been held on May 12, 1937. BUT Edward abdicated on Dec. 11, 1936 so that he could marry American socialite Wallis Simpson who would have been twice divorced by the time of the wedding to Edward - a no-no for reigning British monarchs at the time. The elegant pitcher measures 5-1/2\" from front to back at the top excluding the long handle. On the left side of the pitcher is a left profile of Edward in a wreath. The date 12 May 1937 is on the bowed ribbon below the profile picture. On the right side of the pitcher below the crown in a bowed wreat are the large letter ER. At the bottom in a banner are the words LONG LIVE THE KING. All letters, figures, bows, ribbons and banners are in raised relief. The ARTHUR WOOD ENGLAND mark is on the bottom along with the impressed words MADE IN ENGLAND. There is light crazing on the inside of the pottery pitcher. There is no crazing on the mottled blue on white exterior. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. The pitcher is in very good and very lovely condition. Buyer adds $8.00 postage, packaging and insurance if mailed to any Continental U.S. address.
