Old Pawn Santo Domingo Fox Turquoise and Spiny Oyster Necklacewith silver handmade bench beads!I bought this necklace years ago while on a buying trip in Gallup, New Mexico along old Route 66.It needed to be restrung, so I did that about 15 years ago. I do notremember if the toggle is sterling or not. Everything else is original.The turquoise is from the old Fox mine that was located near Lander County, Nevada. The mine has been playedout for years and the only material available is from old stock or if someone just happens upon itat a rock show, or on the internet.The turquoise has been stabilized and have a nice polish to them.The Spiny Oyster comes from the Gulf of California, the Pacific Coast and the warm waters of South America. They comein an array of colors ranging from purple, orange, yellow and red. They are difficult to harvest, difficult to cut and polishwhich makes the spiny oyster in this necklace just amazing! They measure 15mm to 16mm each!The Santo Domingo Pueblo is approximately midway between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, NM.The Santo Domingo have the longest jewelry-making traditions of any of the pueblos and still makejewelry using 1,000s of years old techniques. They are famous for their stone and shell heishi (whichmeans \"rolled\" beads).
