For sale a charming and rare Lumi region New Guinea skirt. These are rare because they are vulnerable and the frontsection has many strings with EACH hundreds of tiny, SPLIT and drilled grey seeds; an IMMENSE work! There are perhaps a Thousand cut n drilled tiny seeds on the front.These were worn by (uninitiated?) girls. These initiationrituals were ofcourse banned and abandoned since missionaries penetrated these regions. Coming with the stand. Estimated 1920but more likelyearlier.
Condition;very good; only the weaving on one stringside have come loose; see loose threads.Measures;H.42x W.31cm
