This sale is for a lovely old 36\" sterling Native American handmade concho belt with turqouise and beautiful hand stamps weighing 86.5 grams. The belt was made by a Navajo artisan and is signed \"Spencer\" on two of the conchos along with \"sterling\". There were several Spencer hallmarks in Wright\'s Hallmarks of the Southwest associated with \"Felix Indian Jewelry\".
The concho belt is a very traditional Navajo design with many hand stamps on each of the 16 conchos forming a lovely design and having a turquoise in the center. The edges of the 1 1/2\" x 1 1/4\" oval conchos are scalloped with stamps right up to the edges. The turquoise are set in nice sawtooth settings.
The belt is an older style with the 16 decorated conchos held together by sterling silver rings. The belt has an old southwestern charm and a traditional handcrafted Navajo look. The stones vary a little in shape and size which adds to the hand crafted charm of the concho belt.The maximum wearable length of the belt is 36\" but it can be adjusted down by hooking the clasp on to one of the silver rings and letting some of the conchos hang down from the belt.
The conchos and rings of the belt tested as 95% or greater sterling on a GXL Next electronic tester. The belt has been gently hand washed and there is a wonderful patina remaining. The belt is a nice weight at 86.5 grams and not overpowering.
I bought the belt as pre-owned years ago and it has remained in excellent vintage condition with normal wear from age. I never wore the belt but had it on display. One of the silver rings between the conchos is slightly bent. It is not really noticeable and I have not tried to straighten it. Otherwise there is no damage to the belt. No chips or cracks in the stones that I could see. No repairs.
