You are offerding on an antique RARE lacquered hide shield India from Rajasthan. It is made from lacquered hide. The hide is VERY thick a quarter of an inch actually at the rim. The shield was painted red and still keeps a lot of the color. It is possible that the shield was made from more exotic hide rather than buffalo note the yellowish color on the back on the small section where the lacquer is gone. The shield is 17 inches in diameter and the bosses are around 2-1/2 inches in diameter. I think the shield is mid 19th century. A GREAT NICE shield. and have fun... and offer high:-)
