Silk screen on a (medium-heavier) weight paper
The Walt Disney Company devoted a significant portion of their art output to the war effort.. mostly film, but some graphic.... these are some the very few remaining examples... (from an estate in central Missouri)
David Lesjak, an expert and author of \"Service with Character: The Disney Studios and World War II\" contacted me and as partial payment for two of these posters, provided the following:
The Disney artist of these posters was Van Kaufman, posters were produced by W.L. Stensgaard & Associates.
W.L. Stensgaard & Associates, a Disney licensee based in Chicago, produced a stunning series of Disney insignia posters for use on the home front. The company’s 1942 brochure pictured the full line of 54 posters that were sold to retail establishments. The posters were available in either horizontal or vertical format, and were sold individually or in panels showcasing several different designs. Some of the sets measured 15 inches tall by 60 inches long.
Number 33 – baby seal in boat with net scoops up a mine
11th Naval District, San Pedro
Created January 1942
Notice the 11 waves in the water which signify the unit designation
The baby seal was based on the seal character (named Salty) that appeared in the 1936 Mickey Mouse cartoon Mickey’s Circus
Not laid down, in it\'s original state (I was able to only find 6 others and all of them were laid down on a heavier card stock)
about 15\" x 15\" ...
some light edge roughness as pictured.. a tiny chip lower left corner tip
All Pictures are a part of the description, so look closely please.
Sorry, we no longer solicit offers on our items. We have priced them at what we believe to be below market prices (sometimes far below) . They are either worth what we ask, or not. If not, then we will, over time, reduce the price (we will sometimes increase the price if we feel it is currently too far below fair market value.. sorry). We feel that the offer/counteroffer system is inherently flawed and that by stating our best price up front, we are being more \"truthful\" to our customers. Thank you for your interest.. Ron
