Original 1863 Civil War Letter-Confederate Soldier to Sister-Maris Island Attack:

Original Civil War letter dated July 10, 1863, from Confederate soldier W.D.S. Fricks to his sister, T.G.E. Fricks. Written from Columbia, S.C. Two page letter written on one sheet of 8 1/4\" by 6\" paper (front and back). Among other things, the letter mentions Maris Island attacked by the Yankees, \"The telegraph news this morning was that the yankees had attacted (sic) them on the coast at Maris Island\"; \"tell Maw to not think that I have forgoten (sic) her, not at all, I would like to be there to eat beans and taters\"; \"Tell Jim I know just how lazy he is these hot days, tell them I don\'t want to come home till they git done laying by, for it\'s too hot to work now\"; mentions his colt, and asks about bees they found. According to the Civil War database, W.D.S. Fricks was a Confederate private in the 2nd South Carolina Infantry (2nd Palmetto Regiment).
Letter is in good condition, still legible, yellowed/darkened from age, with creases and spotting and some pin holes. Please examine photos and email with any questions.
