PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION/SHIPPING/RETURN POLICIES CAREFULLY:Original 1864 CIVIL WAR SOLDIER LETTER - from Rufus Atherton to his sister - who served in Co. I, 77th Ill. Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. A resident of Elmwood, Illinois - and sent from DeCrows Point, Texas but postmarked New Orleans, LA on February 16, 1864 - he is noted by the fact that several of his letters are being preserved by the University of Illinois where his colorful time in the Union army, which included a stay in a CSA Confederate prisoner of war camp in Texas. The letter mentions Vicksburg, something about a camp (maybe the prison camp?), something about a convalescent camp and baptizing people, and more (I really can’t read the handwriting fully, sorry) - anyway, a very historical original letter correspondence from a noted Union soldier during our nations Civil War.
