ORIGINAL 84TH REGT YORK LANCASTER SCRIMSHAWED REGIMENTAL POWDER HORN 1820\'S BRIT:
$250.00

Here is bar none the best historical powder horn I have ever handled, it is a Regimental Powder Horn for the British 84th Infantry York and Lancaster that was made and scrimshawed in the 1820\'s. the horn is a massive 14\" from end to end in a straight line, dark flat wood top plug that used small cut nails, nice dark green/brown color (maybe oxen horn?) very thinned to ten flat facets that go to a pair of raised rings for suspension-horn has a lot of scrimshawed military images, first there is a large (I assume) 84th Regimental Crest/crown and Flags above a laural circle with some writing-PENINSIA 84 NIVL/INDIA then below that YORK LANCASTER/ENGLAND/EXPECTS/EVERY/MAN, then turning ALBION OF LONDON then a native than a shield than another native then a palm tree below JAMICAI ARMS, rotating above that is a British ship of the line with 2 rows of gun ports under sail with the Union Jack at her truck and next to that looks like Posiden in another wreath. The scrimshawing is light to some heavy but with the horn so dark a little hard to see in my photographs. There is a small amount of damage with horn chips gone at the top edge as seen in the pics. The 84th was raised in 1793, fought in the Napoleonic war then in India and the Indian mutiny and then in the 1820\'s sent to Jamaica to quell a slave uprising and revolt. I am guessing this was done maybe in Jamaica and not as powder horn for his Brown Bess but more as a souvenier of his service powder horn. Please note that this is a real old historically scrimshawed powder horn not like so many of the \"antique\" scrimshawed horns that are not as old as my tennis shoes, also note that the spelling was the best I could do and may have mistakes. Buyer pays $15 for shipping and insurance.
