Click to View Image Album Measuring approximately 7 in. square this ancient Coptic Textile fabric from Egypt c. 5th - 7th Century CE/AD is a fragment of a burial shroud or tunic and is made of wool and linen. There is an old gallery label on verso providing all of the aforementioned information.

Most desirably, two human figures appear; one bearded the other not; both appear alongside lion like figures - an early representation of Jonah in the den of Lions?

Textile fragment has been professionally matted and framed - as found in a fine old estate collection. Overall framed/glazed dimensions are 13 in. square.
