An original CIVIL WAR 1863 Chase & Nichols of Boston 2.5 inch X 3.5 inch POCKET DIARY of EDMUND F. CHURCHILL of the 18th REGIMENT of MASSACHUSETTS. Churchill became Flag bearer of the 18th Massachusetts during the War. The Diary is inscribed as a gift from his father Nov. 15, 1862 and has notation that Edmund received it Nov. 23, 1863 at camp near Falmouth, VA. The entries in pencil and ink cover the dates from January 1, 1863 to May 1, 1863 where that last entry reads \" within 6 miles of Fredericksburg..came back..laid in woods..got shelled. \" There are also some loose pages of an 1862 Diary leading from November to the end of December when the 1863 Diary begins. Diary shows some wear and some pages have water stains. Obviously carried in the field throughout that period. A highly collectable Civil War item !
