Rare Vintage Ellisdons Jokes, Magic and Novelties Catalogue

This is original Ellisdons catalogue and NOT a repro. Please Note: This catalogue shows age and wear and the inside pages have aged in colour with crease at places.

The catalogue is not dated but I would say it is from 1930\'s/40\'s

36 Page catalogue.

Following is a brief history of this company………Ellisdon & Son at one time where one of the biggest, Novelty & Joke shops in the world. They had a HUGE magic and novelty business going in the early part of the last century.Ellisdon & Son published many of their own booklets and supplied material to not only amateur magicians but ventriloquists, too. ELLISDON & SON had a large shop devoted purely to tricks and novelties situated at 246 High Holborn, London, WC1. But they sold their huge range of tricks and novelties all over the UK with what they claimed to be \"The Largest Mail Order House for Novelties in the World\". They had all the classic gags and jokes: Invisible Ink, Running Match Boxes, The Exaggeroscope, Trick Cigarettes, The Window Smashing Joke, The Captivating and Tantalizing Hula Hula Dancer, The Sex Indicator, The Merry Widow Hanky, The Exploding Lipstick, The wonderful Seebackroscope and the slightly naughty Dream Mirror, to name justr a few. The prices for this weird and wonderful selection of practical jokes and saucy novelties are amusing in themselves. The Ellisdons were Australian immigrants who arrived in the UK in the 1930\'s. Why they decided to trade in obscure novelties and practical jokes, nobody seems to know. They traded very successfully until the 1970\'s when their rapid demise was brought about by the final retirements of the founding family. Alas, the famous catalogues that endless schoolboys had treasured would be no more.
