Let me begin by saying I am not an art expert, however, I have done research on this artist and believe this to be an authentic David Pelbam painting.
Original Mid Century Artist Signed DAVID PELBAM Oil on Canvas Painting of Bearded Sea Captain with his Ship. This painting\'s large size and scope are quite unusual for Pelbam as most of his paintings were head & shoulder portraits and measured much less than half the size of this painting.
This painting measures: 24\"x48\" canvas, 32\"x56\" framed.
David Pelbam was born in 1932 and is believed to have fled Austria for the United States just before Hitler’s invasion. Pelbam lived in Rhode Island where he began painting portraits of the same old man in a variety of disguise ranging from Rabbi, Dock Hand to Sea Captain. The man in the paintings is thought to be David Pelbam himself.
Since Pelbam passed away in 2004, his paintings have continually increased in value and popularity. This piece is a great opportunity to invest in artwork as his values will continue to rise.
