Original Vintage Hawaii Travel Poster Cruise Ship Independence Constitution :
Presenting an original vintage Hawaii travel poster.
Tom Sellers drew the picture for Aloha magazine. The styling is VERY 1980s. The ship featured is either the Independence or Constitution berthed near the Aloha Tower in Honolulu. Oahu reinstituted Boat Day, once a celebration for Matson Liners, when the Independence and Constitution started sailing the Hawaiian Islands in the '80s after their years on the North Atlantic.
The Constitution was later used as spare parts for her sister ship, and sadly sank while under tow to be scrapped in '97. The Independence was scrapped in India in 2009.
The Norwegian Line tried reinvigorating the Hawaiian loop in the 2000s, in my opinion, to varying degrees of success and with much uglier ships.Purchased in Hawaii in 1988, it has some foxing due to age, some tears, pin holes from displaying, and creasing from being rolled up (see pics on condition).
I've never seen a poster like this again, much rarer than an airline travel poster, and very representative of 1980s style.
Size is not-quite-standard 24x37, and may need a custom frame.
