Original German Prussian PICKELHAUBE helmet WW1.In nice display condition, has small break to front metal peak edge but otherwise is complete. The inside liner is in fairly poor condition with bits of leather missing but the peak and rear peak and main helmet bowl is good. All steel and brass fittings is present. The brass Prussian badge is very good but one of the lugs is missing inside. These magnificent Teutonic and iconic symbols of German Imperial might from days gone by are always very delicate and extreme care should be taken when handling.The correct left and right (Prussian colours LH side and German Imperial colours RH side) rosettes are ORIGINAL with original paint. As collectors will know these are impossible to find and many helmets have repro rosettes. The chin strap is an excellent hard to tell replica. I removed the spike many years ago and underneath the inner bracket is stamped the date \'1917\'.This helmet has some interesting provenance. When I was I kid I travelled to London many times and this helmet was on display in a very old Jermyn Street military outfitters (close to Saville Row where many bespoke tailors and military outfitters like Gieves and Hawkes were based) and had been there since WW1 in the window. I was fascinated by this as I had seen it on display from the late 1960\'s until the early 1990\'s. Many years later it came up in sale as the business had closed down and by sheer luck I acquired it at much cost and postage to Australia.This is almost certainly a battlefield pick up, bring-back trophy by British troops in WW1. Very few of originals come up for sale these days except for large prices as they have become very rare and the most sought after of all German militaria.Sold used and second hand as is.
