A really pretty German 800 silver basket with superbly worked rose garlands in relief against a ground of rococo openwork with roundels of roses to either end and uninscribed cushioned cartouches to either side.
It is in super condition with only minor signs of age/use-related feint marks and some patination which, along with the style of the piece, indicates that it is most probably antique rather than vintage. We would estimate it as having been made during the early years of the last century.
The join to the outer at either end is not completely covered and a small uneven indent can be picked out as shown in the images. The wonders of the digital camera tends to emphasise its prominence whereas it is far less noticeable to the naked eye. These are obviously original joins rather than repairs and are typical for the suggested age of the piece.
