Gorgeous antique Scandinavian/German wood staved bucket with the soaring side staves characteristic of this region. Amazing age-appropriate hand-painting with a central inscription which could probably be made out by an expert (I do think it\'s German). 2 bands and nails to hold in place, also 2 staples.

Size: 17\"c18\"x14\"

Condition: wear appropriate for use and age.

I am adding this further condition note in response to a query sent by an attentive viewer who wondered about the possible presence of dry rot:

I\'m not an expert on dry rot but the bottom of this piece doesn\'t seem to have anything that corresponds to what the internet tells me dry rot is. The wood is very old, no question, but the exterior bottom is not soft or fungible. The interior feels dusty, as though it was used for flour but again, it is sturdy and hard.

While a close examination suggests that there may have been contact with water at one point, this may have actually been originally designed to carry water, the side pieces expanding to form a secure and watertight container. That\'s just a guess, of course, but it seems to me a pretty fair one. In any event, I\'m going to post some more pictures of the bottom for your review.
