Description

This sale is foran antique 100% hand painted German\"Royal Vienna\" style plate, signed by the artist,Wagner, perhaps the best known of all of the porcelain painters. The subject is \"Amor und Psyche\" or \"Cupid andPsyche\"after an originalpainting by William-Adolphe Bouguereau. This plate has been in my personal collection for many years and is being offered for sale for the very firsttime.

The platemeasures9 1/2\". The portrait is beautifully executed with a bold Wagner signature along the lower border of the portrait. Note the extraordinary detail in the faces, hands and feet. The plate is surrounded by a beautiful pale blue-green iridescent border, with exquisitely detailedheavy raisedgilding that includes various detailed cartouches.

The plate is marked on the back with the blue \"beehive\" or Bindenschild mark under the glaze, and marked with the name of subject, \"Amor und Psyche\" and \"38816\" in goldover the glaze.The plate is impressed with the number \"24,\" and likely datesfrom the 1893 - 1900 time period. The plate was likely manufactured and decorated in Germany.

The plateisinEXCELLENT condition(in my estimation it is as close to perfect as one can ever expect to get)withNOchips, cracks,scratches or repairs. The gilding appears to becompletely intact with novisible wear and no missing gold beads that I could find.Any white spots or lines in the photographs are from the flash and are not damage.
