Details

This ancient Native American stone tool was used by the Hopewell Culture Indians about 2,000 years ago!

It was found in what is now Ohio and Indiana and is guaranteed authentic and original.

This oval shaped stone tool was either used as a hammer stone for pounding and/or as a nutting stone. Both actions are possible uses as evidenced by the percussion chips on one the edges and on both flat sides of the tool. There are small indented dimples on both flat sides. The dimples are very shallow (see photo # 9 for details) and that is why I don\'t believe it was used primarily as a nutting stone, but rather as a pounding stone--perhaps to pound wooden stakes into the ground. It fits perfectly in the palm of one\'s hand and I think it saw hard use in its day.

It is in as found condition and was reportedly from the Ex. Bill Marlott collection.

The Hopewell Tradition (also called the \"Hopewell Culture\") is the term used to describe commonaspects of the Native American culture that flourished along rivers in thenorthEastern and Midwestern United States from 200 BC to 500 AD. The Hopewell Tradition was not a single culture or society, but a widely dispersed set ofrelated populations, which were connected by a common network of trade routes, known as the Hopewell Exchange System.
