Hello, thank you for having a look at our sales. This week we are very excited an amazing estate collection of fine jades and scholarly objects. This sale will be our Final sale of the winter season. We will likely list another Asian arts sale in early spring. This sale offers a wide variety of fine and important Chinese works of art including many jades, bronzes, and other rarely found scholarly objects.

The sale features items from two important estate collections. They include items from the estate of Mr. H.H Pao of Toronto who owned a high-end shop in the famous Four Seasons hotel in Toronto for several years throughout the 1980s to 1990s period. Mr. Pao was a dear friend whom was considered one of North America’s top experts and scholars in many categories of antique Chinese art. The sale also includes jades and other early Chinese bronze and archaic items from the estate of A Abraham. Mr. Abraham was a highly respected Asian Arts dealer and collector in the 1950-70’s period. He frequently travelled to China, Hong Kong, New York, and London on buying trips at the time. Abraham owned the Imperial Jade shop in the famous King Edward hotel in Toronto until his retirement in the year 1976, 40 years ago. When the shop closed many of the pieces went to Sotheby’s in New York for sale. Abraham kept some of his most favorite examples that we are now offering for sale. Most of the pieces have been in storage since the shop closed in 1976 and have not seen the light of day until now.

I have personally never seen another set like this. They may be an original husband and wife set, or maybe scholar and child set. I was told that if I split the belt hooks up they would likely bring more being offered individually. But the belt hooks have been together this long and I feel that they should stay together so regardless of this I am selling the belt hooks as a pair for One offer price for both of them. Both belt hooks are very finely carved, much nicer than I can take pictures of when seen in person. I have personally never seen another example with this unique dragon with flaming pearl design. I believe one or both of the belt hooks could be considered white jade depending on who you asked! To be perfectly safe for the sale I am selling the belt hooks as white or a very light celadon jade.

The belt hooks could use a light cleaning but we never like to touch anything like this preferring to leave items we offer in estate fresh condition. The belt hooks are otherwise in very fine condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The belt hook with qilin measures 4 3/4 inches long, by 7/8’s of an inch wide, and 7/8’s of an inch tall. This belt hook weights 76 grams. The belt hook with dragon and pearl measures 4 1/4 inches long, by 7/8’s of an inch wide, and sits 1 inch tall. This belt hook measures 86 grams. The belt hooks came from the estate with this fine silk lined presentation box. I believe it may be some time before you see another unique set like this being offered, mostly without reserve!
