PAIR ICONIC Gerald Thurston Lightolier Midcentury atomic 50\'s vtg lamps tripod:
$3200.00

2nd only to his elusive little triple mushroom lamp, Gerald Thurston\'s most iconic, larger and more practical\"Young Moderns\" lamp design in a matched pair with NEW custom shades

(still amazing to me, that this was designed in 1954)

Classic double perforated diffuser tripod lamps. As I\'ve mentioned in my other Thurston listings, he often refused to be limited to the typical spider fitted lamp shade and developed

brilliant shades specific to the particular design.

Folks, let me tell you it is a major production in both time and cost to have professional duplicate shades made. These shades follow the exact dimensions of the original shade which was

provided as a guide to the manufacturer. The looping metal hooks, which allow the lamp to sit on the 3 brass rods are the same as the originals.

Of course it is well worth it, since the bases without the correct shades don\'t have the intended effect. To that point, I have seen a sold $4600 pair of these lamps that someone had installed small \'L\' brackets

for shades sans the clips. (It didn\'t work).

As you can see, the new shades are still wrapped in the protective plastic. The material is a slightly textured Egg Shell Linen. And going a step further, the shades are finished with

a \'rolled edge\' (no bulky tape tabs at the top or bottom of the shade....a much sleeker look).

Condition:

Each top diffuser has small areas of paint loss. One could easily touch these up, but I would recommend keeping these antique lamps intact.

Structurally, the lamps are in excellent condition. Both lamps have all the rod caps at the top. Original wiring and sockets.

Roughly 26 inches tall. The design of this lamp is as startlingly \'Modern\' today as it was 60 years ago.

As a mid century lamp lover, collector and seller, my philosophy is simple and two pronged;

1) RARITY AND BEAUTY

One can easily buy a great $1000 contemporary lamp from Holly Hunt or Circa lighting, or Flos (to name a few) but the lamps I sell

will never be produced again and I appreciate their rarity.

2) HONESTY

I never sell \"Frankenstein\" lamps (odd pieces slapped together, slathered in new paint (oddly enough usually fire engine red) and passed off as having an exotic (usually Italian, or Gino Sarfatti ) origin.

Buyer beware, I say!
