...AN EXCELLENT PAIR of 12.5" TALL, ANTIQUE AMERICAN SILVER PLATE & FOLIATE CUT GLASS VASES by MERIDEN B. CO., MERIDEN, CT., circa 1870-80.

Beautifully worked glass with gilt accents. Highlighted by a central band of grapes & vines, profusely hand ground & cut all about. Long fern like foliates cover nearly the entire piece.

A somewhat scarce find as the glass is original and undamaged after 140 years!!!
The silverplate frame is also in good condition with no plate loss, dings or dents.

I especially enjoy the glass marble prism drops on the sides. They offer a lot of charm.

Each is clearly marked with Meriden's early 'B' mark (Britannia Metal). Additionally marked with a model number: 179. This dates the pieces to the same era as triple plate and quadrupleplate.

Wonderfully decorative at 12 1/2" tall. Perfect as part of a garniture. A mantle. Sideboard. Hall table, etc.

And for the collector of American silverplate... perhaps a key acquisition of the hard to find combination of silver & glass... I don't think it out of place to say that these would be very hard to see again in this condition... or any condition.
