This pair of brackets are in fine grade cast iron and have only one small 2x2x0.5 mm casting flaw on an inner edge. The average cross section of the bars is 8x8 mm with 2 square holes 8x8 mm per bracket for bolts/fixings (see picture), one for the shelf and one for the wall. With this design, the brackets would need to be used in opposition, e.g. on the sides of an alcove or to stiffen a free standing shelf unit.Present finish is typical for aged cast iron but there are traces of what might have been gold paint or similar.
