PETER HITCHCOCK,а Chief justice of Ohio for twenty-five years, was born October 19th,1781, at Cheshire, New Haven county, Connecticut, and died on the 4thMarch, 1854, at Painesville, Lake county, Ohio. He was educated in thecommon schools until he was seventeen, when he entered YaleCollege. On the conclusion of his term he was in 1812 chosen toserve in the senate, and reelected in 1814 when he served a portion ofthe time as speaker.
