I have up for offer one antique hardcover leather book with gold gilded pages and Fine Steel-Plate Engravings from 1881, \"The Pictorial History Of The Great Civil War: Its Causes, Origin, Conduct and Results.\" By John Laird Wilson, Special Correspondent of the New York Herald. Copyright 1881. Embracing full and authentic accounts of its battles by land and sea, with graphic descriptions of heroic deeds achieved by armies and individuals; narratives of personal adventure; thrilling incidents; daring exploits; wonderful escapes; life in camp, field, and hospital; adventures at sea; blockade life, etc., etc. Containing carefully prepared biographies of the leading generals and naval commanders of both the North and South. Book is embellished with numerous fine steel-plate engravings of battle-scenes, and with portraits of a hundred leading generals. C. E. Chamberlain & Company, Williamsport, PA. Book measures approx. 10\" long x 7 1/2\" wide with 976 pages inside, book weight approx. 6 pounds. Book is very fragile, cover is hanging by a thread. Outside leather binding is loose ( the pieces are inside book). Binding is loose. Beautiful pages inside with many fine steel-plate engravings, illustrations, portraits, etc. Pages are in pristine condition, considering the book is over 136 years old. Front and back cover, outside binding is worn and torn, leather worn, edge and corner wear, etc. Also found newspaper clippings inside, copies of \"soldier\'s letters from the Civil War\". Newspaper is from Memorial Day 1984. Also, copies of Declaration of Independence and address delivered at the dedication of the Cemetery at Gettysburg. (all copies I\'m sure), but what if :)
