PILOT CUSTOM 98: DARK REDAlong with PILOT NAMIKI Custom series, the Custom 98 is the base model of the Custom series, rounding off what is quite an exceptional and unique line of pens. Custom 98 comes in gold plated nibs in a variety of widths and sizes, and a good range of filling systems. The look is a classic/modern mix. The clips are reminiscent of vintage Parker Big Red pens with a triangular shape terminating with a round sphere, and the trim is sparse but detailed, bringing the understated look of a modern business pen.
On the ring is etched \"Custom 98\" and \"made in Japan\" and on the clip is etched Pilot. The cap unscrews from the pen. This particular pen is a cartridge converter pen. Converter does not come with the package from the manufacturer.
NIB MATERIAL & PERFORMANCE
The cap unscrews from the pen. This particular pen is a cartridge converter pen. To change the cartridge or converter you simply unscrew the nib section from the barrel. This cartridge is unique because it is a piston style cartridge. To fill the ink you press this piston in to pull the ink into the cartridge. You can also pull this cartridge out and replace it with a converter.
The Custom 98 comes with a nib of the same quality as other pens in the Custom series. It is a #3 size (small compared to the larger #15 nib on the Custom 823), well suited to the width of the pen. All nibs in the Custom range are 14k gold, with a few having white rhodium plated nibs and trim. The Custom 98 has a yellow gold colored nib that is absolutely gorgeous.

With an inherited interest: - Routine and Curiosity
Until PenSachi is finally made, it is a long journey to the West and the East of an amateur freelance writer with a passionate interest in handwriting. I fortunately inherited this interest from my grandfather who used to be a practitioner of Chinese and Japanese calligraphy which many of young Japanese nowadays might rarely now about.
With a hobby of a collector: - Experience and Joy and Friendship
I still kept the hobby of writing and collecting fountain pens even after I moved to the West for study in 2000. I found out how lucky I was to be in Japan as it was not that hard to get a fountain pen or brush pen for calligraphy compared to here in Europe. However, it was such a destiny as I could meet and become friends with those people who also share the same interest in writing instruments. It was somehow different in the way we think and practice calligraphy because of national identity but it then became more amazing as while sharing Japanese cultures I could also learn new things too.
As a business man: - Career and Dream and Passion
After graduation, I came back to Japan and worked for a company which actually has no relation to my hobby but it never stopped my interest in writing and calligraphy. If writing from a pen collector’s perspective is something of habit, joy and experience, for a business man, it is also about manner, career and dream. However, they have one thing in common - PASSION. As long as we have the same passion, we are all connected.
As a dreamer/ companion / sympathizer
I took a chance to visit many corners in Asia for volunteering during 2007-2010 and it was a truly great experience when I could see writing with a totally different view. Far to the Northwest of Vietnam, for many children in Mai Chau or Sa pa, owning a good pen can make them more than happy. Or for many elder-lies in remote villages of China, having a good brush pen to practice calligraphy becomes such a fancy wish of their whole life. It might be so easy for of us to have writing as a daily hobby but for many others it is a dream and it might bring us a joy but to many other it’s an absolute happiness.
