INTRODUCTION: FALCON ELABO

Eagerly anticipated for many Pilot fountain pen lovers who loves to write with fexible nibs, here comes Pilot Elabo available in a new rhodium trim version. This affordable everyday writer has previously been made only with gold trim, but now those who prefer silver will be delighted to find this new version as well. While the Falcon Resin with gold trim originally had the Namiki logo on the nib and cap band, the rhodium-trim version is inscribed as a Pilot - but with either trim or brand name, this is the same terrific pen and nib.

The Elabo fountain Pen Collection by Pilot offers elegant classic styling and a superior, customized writing experience. This fountain pen features a 14-karat rhodium gold nib for a smooth writing experience. With a simple but very formal design, the pen also gives a very simple feeling of writing. The most extraordinary feature is its one and only nib. The “hooded” nib was designed to meet their flexibility requirements and the feed was engineered to provide optimal performance. More interesting, the pen represents the three characteristic of writing the Japanese Kanji characters: “stop”, “sweep” and “upward turn”. It could be seen by feeling the nib adapting easily to various angle and pressure so that each stroke becomes so smooth.

ELABO METAL VERSION

This Pilot Elabo looks like the Falcon. It has a Metal body, round, with blunt, slightly tapered ends. The finial is comes in different colors such as black, res etc., matching the rest of the body. The grip section comes in black, and tapers towards the nib. As I said in my Falcon review, overall, the appearance of the pen is pretty classic, until you see the nib! The trim is rhodium and looks great against the metal body. Available colors are Black/ Red/ Violet/ Brown. Comes in SEF, SF, SM & SB sizes.

NIB MATERIAL & PERFORMANCE

With an inherited interest: - Routine and Curiosity

Until PenSachi is finally made, it is a long journey to the West and the East of an amateur freelance writer with a passionate interest in handwriting. I fortunately inherited this interest from my grandfather who used to be a practitioner of Chinese and Japanese calligraphy which many of young Japanese nowadays might rarely now about.

With a hobby of a collector: - Experience and Joy and Friendship

I still kept the hobby of writing and collecting fountain pens even after I moved to the West for study in 2000. I found out how lucky I was to be in Japan as it was not that hard to get a fountain pen or brush pen for calligraphy compared to here in Europe. However, it was such a destiny as I could meet and become friends with those people who also share the same interest in writing instruments. It was somehow different in the way we think and practice calligraphy because of national identity but it then became more amazing as while sharing Japanese cultures I could also learn new things too.

As a business man: - Career and Dream and Passion

After graduation, I came back to Japan and worked for a company which actually has no relation to my hobby but it never stopped my interest in writing and calligraphy. If writing from a pen collector’s perspective is something of habit, joy and experience, for a business man, it is also about manner, career and dream. However, they have one thing in common - PASSION. As long as we have the same passion, we are all connected.

As a dreamer/ companion / sympathizer

I took a chance to visit many corners in Asia for volunteering during 2007-2010 and it was a truly great experience when I could see writing with a totally different view. Far to the Northwest of Vietnam, for many children in Mai Chau or Sa pa, owning a good pen can make them more than happy. Or for many elder-lies in remote villages of China, having a good brush pen to practice calligraphy becomes such a fancy wish of their whole life. It might be so easy for of us to have writing as a daily hobby but for many others it is a dream and it might bring us a joy but to many other it’s an absolute happiness.

As a parent

I don’t tell my children to follow my interest in calligraphy but buying them a good pen and showing them how good handwriting is would be what I absolutely do as for me it’s also a means of education.
