POLYCHROME HISTORICAL HAGGADAH FOR Passover
by Jacob Freedman, D.D.

With a Commentary, Interpretive Translation, Introduction, Notes, References and Bibliography

Illustrations in color from rare Medieval Haggadah Manuscripts

Publisher: Springfield, Massachusetts: Jacob Freedman Liturgy Research Foundation, 1974. Stated First Edition.

Description: TheHaggadah is composed of diverse layers with a system of Scriptural quotations. In preparation of this work Rabbi Jacob Freedmandeveloped a technique to make that composition clearly visible. There are full page color reproductions of pages from famous medieval Haggadot, a comprehensive index to all the sources cited in the marginal notes, with Freedman\'s own English translation on the facing page. This book is written in English and Hebrew.

The color-code system which Dr. Freedman has introduced, has been widely acclaimed by scholars both here and abroad as an important innovation and contribution in the field of liturgy. The colored squares at the head of paragraphs and sections indicate the era when they were introduced. The colors in the text indicate the sources.

There is a gift inscription from a prior owner on the front free endpaper:

“June 22, 1986
Dear Ellen & Ken,
Passover has always been a very special holiday. It has been a time for feeling the closeness, warmth and love of family, and ‘extended family.’ We give you this Haggadah in that spirit and hope that Passover will always be a special time.
Love,
Debbie and Lee”
