PR ANTIQUE WMF SP WINE BOTTLE HOLDERS NUDES & FLORALS RARE \"B\" BRITANNIA 1900-01:

Acquired by a family member in Germany in the late 1940s,
an antique family heirloom set offered for the discriminating buyer and connoisseur of fine art:
an exquisite German Jugendstil / Art Nouveau pair of
highly detailed, silver plated \"Trio-of-Nudes\" Wine Bottle Holders
made at the famous WMF factory.Each beautiful holder measures approximately 3 3/4\" tall x 5 1/2\" wide at the base,
holding up to an approximately 3 3/4\" wide wine bottle inside.
(bottle shown in pictures below is for display only and not included)They feature a familiar and easily recognizable early Jugendstil / Art Nouveau motif.A trio of nudes holding hands underneath intricately designed decorative foliage,
ribbonned vines, and grapes, along with a similar Art Nouveau design on the base,
stretches around each metal holder.They are hallmarked \"WMFB\"
(very rare \"B\" - Britannia metal base)
dated and marked:2.I.1900
(very concise professional engraving - 2.Jan.1900)9.II.1901 \"GERTRUD\"
(engraving done by a different engraver 13 months later - 9.Feb.1901)The inscription \"WMF\" is fused
with the additional \"B\" mark that means rare Britannia metal base.
Both holders also show the letters \"I/O\" and \"O/X\".According to the WMF web pages - Supplementary marks:
\"I/O\" = Normal thickness of gilding or silver-plating.
\"O/X\" = Oxidized finish.

The bases are 3 footed,
and originally seem to have had some sort of point extending outward
that were either worn away, or removed over time.Beneath the 1900\'s base,
there is some slight separation in the metal under one of the roses.Neither one has been polished, not even the base or around the hallmarks,
as even a little bit of original patina removal should be left up to the potential buyer
who may feel the same about any change to the original finish. Both pieces are in excellent condition for their age and their obvious beauty
would make them a superb addition to any antique Silverplate,
Jugendstil, Art Nouveau, Nude, or Wine collection.Thank you for looking,
