Tears in lower blank margin mended on verso with glassine.Light smudging with partial fingerprint. Fine condition.

In full, “Hon. George F. Miller,M.C. elect for the Harrisburg District, has a son ? Daniel B. Miller ? who fora long time has been acting Commissary of Subsistence, now wishes theappointment for him, with rank of Captain ? He is now with the Army of theJames. Let him be appointed. Yours truly A. Lincoln”On December 12, 1864, Daniel B. Miller was among those nominated by PresidentLincoln “To be commissaries of subsistence with the rank of captain.” OnFebruary 14, 1865, it was “Resolved, That the Senate advise and consent to theappointment…” Republican George F. Miller (1809-1885) represented Pennsylvaniain the House of Representatives from March 4, 1865 to March 3, 1869
