This letter reads:Mr. Joseph FinnActing PostmasterBoston, Massachusetts Dear Joe: I am writing to you in behalf of Daniel J. Ford of 75 Gordon Street, Somerville, Massachusetts, who is now employed at the Union Square Post Office in Somerville. Mr. Ford has been with the Post Office Department forapproximately25 years,16 of which have been in the above mentioned postal station. It is my understanding that the assistant superintendent at that station is retiring as of November 30th, and Mr.Ford is most anxious to secure a promotion to that particular position, for which he possesses the necessary qualifications, having filled in on numerous occasions as supervisor. When Frank Crowley, the former Postmaster of Boston, was in Washington during August of this year, I spoke to him about Mr. Ford, and understand that he subsequently contacted Mr. Ford during the latter part of that month, asking him if he would accept a promotion. Of course, with Mr. Crowley\'s resignation, this promotion did not materialize. Mr. Ford\'s record of service is available to you, and I shallcertainlyappreciate anything you may be able to do for him.
