RARE circa 1865 PRIMITIVE WOOD CARVING FOLK ART of

American Civil War Soldier

Original primitive folk art hand carved & hand painted figure of a U.S. CivilWar Zouave soldier. We believe that this carving dates circa 1860\'s & isfrom the American Civil War era. All surfaces of the wood & the paint showpatina from age.

The wood appears to be made of Oak.

It is thought that this carving was made by a soldier that fought in theCivil War.

We have seen similar carvings from the Zouave Soldier as it musthave been a pastime of a soldiers life when not fighting in a battle.

This figure is quite skillfully carved. He retains lotsof his entirely original multi-colored paint. The paint is quite rich &retains a lovely patina from age.

Many years ago he got some very small chips to hisfeet. These chipped areas now have much natural patina from age & presentnicely with the rest of the surfaces on the figure.

There is some light wear tothe paint and wood overall. The soldieris standing posed in standard red issue Zouave shorts pantaloons, and standardissued vest - without his jacket. He isa young lad holding a knife ready for battle.

The figure stands approximately 12 inches tall . Thisfigure is entirely original in all respects. There are no repairs, noreplacements, & all of the paint on the figure appears original. The qualitypatina can be seen in the accompanying photos.
