DESCRIPTION
Attractive,brass and white metal cap badge from the Princess Louise Fusiliers (M.G.). This style of badge was worn during WW2 and up until the 1970\'s, when modern metals were adopted. This is very likely a post war made 1950\'s or 60\'s made badge with two metal lugs for attachment and makers hallmark \"W. SCULLY LTD\" over \"MONTREAL\".
This Halifax, Nova Scotia basedregiment was raised in 1869 as the Halifax Volunteer Battalion of Infantry becomingthe 66th Halifax Battalion of Infantry later that year. They laterbecame the 66th Regiment Princess Louise Fusilier sand received Battle Honours for North West Canada 1885 and South Africa 1899-1900.
During WW1, they received five Battle Honours perpetuated through the 64th Battalion C.E.F. They also perpetuated the 6th Canadian Machine Gun Battalion, Canadian Machine Gun Corps (1919-1936).
In 1920, they became the Princess Louise Fusiliers, and were giventhe Machine Gun (M.G.) suffix in 1936. The Regiment were mobilised on January 1st, 1941 and embarked for England on October 26th, 1942. The Regiment landed in Italy as part of the 11th Infantry Brigade ofthe 5th Canadian Armoured Division on November 10, 1943. They were transferred to the North-West Europe front in February 1945. During WW2, they were awarded a total often Battle Honours, the most recent being Arnhem 1944, which was only awarded in 1999.
