Packard Bell Model 100A Antique Bakelite Tube Radio from 1949 Recently Serviced:

MODEL, YEAR, FEATURES: This Packard Bell Model 100A has been receiving news, sports, talk, and music since the Truman administration, nearly 66 years ago. Front louvers, rounded corners, window dial, stylized bullet knobs, and rotating pointer are styling cues common in the 1940’s, and they come together well on this little Bakelite set. Packard Bell outfitted this model and a number of others with “stationized” dials where the call letters of stronger stations were neatly arranged on the dial scale at the approximate position for the tuning pointer to find them. This one is stationized for the northwest and California with many of the stations still active to this day. Note: radio will pick up the AM band regardless of your location with frequencies shown on the dial as well. Radio had been stored away for decades and was recently brought back to life and cleaned up to reveal a special marbled Bakelite cabinet seen clearly in photos. Controls are simple Volume, Tuning, and the electronics have been recently serviced to ensure reliable service for years to come.
CONDITION, SERVICING, PERFORMANCE: Cabinet is in exc shape without nicks, cracks, scratches or mars. The marbline in the Bakelite is seen clearly in stronger lighting. In dimmer lighting, the color is a deep dark chocolate with a nice gloss after a thorough polishing using no oils. Dial cover is crystal clear, dial scale is quite legible, pointer rotates smoothly around the dial without slipping or binding. The electronics have been thoroughly gone through. Tuner and chassis were cleaned, mechanics were lubed, dial cord checked, and all the typical checks were performed for any out of tolerance components or defective wiring. The old wax/foil capacitors and electrolytic filters were replaced, and a multitude of other checks were performed along with an alignment and burn-in. Reception is now excellent without hum or distortion across the AM band with good sensitivity from the 5 tube design with its on board loop antenna. An external wire can be connected to the back panel clip to boost AM reception, but I found it doesn’t need it. Sound from the original undamaged speaker inside is very listenable. Power cord is safe and pliable, backboard is sturdy, radio has its original knobs and fasteners present along with a simple model tag on the back. The set is clean inside and out with no dust build-up or odors, tubes are easily accessed, and quite available to this day if ever needed. This uncommonly clean Made in USA Packard Bell set is ready for its next owner to play and display.
DIMENSIONS, SHIPPING: Cabinet measures 9.4 inches wide, stands 6.2 in. tall, and is 5.8 in. deep from front of knobs to back side (old 6.5 Oz. Coke bottle in photo placed to give sense of scale and show relective surfaces). I’ve shipped over a thousand delicate tube radios all over the world for the past 15 years on with finest packing materials and methods, fully insured, so no worries. Radio will be sent off on the day or day after payment is received via ground delivery.
