VINTAGE REAL PHOTO POSTCARD (RPPC) FEATURING A GIRL, DRESSED AS A NATIVE AMERICAN, AND A PAPOOSE DOLL. Handwriting on the back: \"Mary Colborn Pageant at Elfin Lake.\"
Around the time that this postcard was manufactured, there was a fad of white people dressing as Native American Indians. And much as they’d used blackface to mimic African Americans, they would darken their skin to mimic indigenous people. The doll is pretty remarkable. And this young lady also copies the style of the banner ladies, who would advertise wares on their dresses.
SIZE. Approximately 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches.
CONDITION. A few tiny spots and specks. Some soiling at left edge, top portion. When tilted, scuffing is apparent. Wear at corners. Small tear on border, center of right side. Soiling on border and back.
APPEARANCE. Very good tones. Lots of details to the outfit, and note the doll\'s eyes! Great expression on the girl\'s face.
